In Situ Metallography or Replica Test as the same name suggested is a procedure used to replicate the surface microstructures of a polished and /or etched surface at the site.
This method statement covers the replication of surface microstructures of items where sectioning is not allowed. In other words it is non destructive technique. This usually involved bag items or crucial items which cannot be removed from it's location.
this technique is also employed in preventive maintenance excercise. this technique is applicable to all metallic expect the etchant used and /or the etching may different.
Purpose of the replica - whether for failure analysis, for routine preventine maintenance or metallurgical evaluation of microstructure after a fire or an accident.
